Lishu Institute is named for the great Bön siddha Nyachen Lishu Taring, who played a crucial role in the dissemination of the Threefold Propagation in Tibet in the eighth century. The first element of this propagation was the spread of Bön into India, China, and Zhang Zhung (an ancient kingdom now part of Tibet). The second was the spread of Bön throughout all of Tibet, and the third was the spread of Bön by means of textual treasures. Lishu is said to have gone to Zhang Zhung as well as to Tazik several times in order to obtain sacred texts, which he translated into Tibetan. And like Drenpa Namkha, he also concealed sacred texts (terma) for the benefit of future generations.
Lishu Institute will be a place where the 3-5 year residential students can receive teachings from a much broader array of Tibetan teachers than they might in the West. The proximity of both Triten Norbutse (Nepal) and Menri (India) Monasteries will enable both Masters and Geshes to participate. In addition, older teachers who are no longer able to travel to the West will be available to residential students. Long and difficult negotiations with the Indian authorities has been somewhat delayed the construction of the building. Also there is still lack of financial resources. If you wish to donate in Germany, you can deposit your donations at the intended use "Lishu" on our donation. You can choose to receive a tax-deductible donation receipt.
